When I was ten years old I made a long list of things I hoped to achieve later in life One of my main ambitions, lodged in between becoming an astronaut and drawing comics for a living, was to write a novel. The plan was to do this before I turned thirteen, but it s taken me a little bit longer than that My early love of comic books eventually took me in a slightly different direction a career in animation I ve worked as an animator on several features films including Space Jam Lost in Space, computer games like Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone and Driver, and television shows such as Tracy Beaker Returns and Hyperdrive And now I run my own animation studio called Qurios. But I continued to write until my first novel, Sorrowline, was completed some decades after my thirteenth birthday I d like to take the credit for it, but I swear there is something living under the stairs that whispers secrets to me when no one else is around.I live in my native north east England, where the voices under the stairs continue to influence my career path And I still plan on becoming an astronaut and setting foot on Mars, but it might take me a few decades to tick that one off my list.Sorrowline, which won a Northern Promise award at the Northern Writers Awards 2011, is out now from Andersen Press with its sequel Timesmith following in 2014 You can follow my Facebook page here facebook nielbushnell Click Like to see regular updates.

I received this book for free as part of First Reads giveaways This review may contain spoilers. To be completely honest, this book was one of those I entered just because The cover and blurb looked interesting, but I m not sure I would have zeroed in on it to buy if it was on a bookshelf in front of me.I did, however, particularly like this book I found it really quick and easy to read and I was a bit surprised at how dark it was for a book which is meant to be for readers younger than me.The fi [...]

A bit of a dip in the middle, not quite on the same high level as Sorrowline 1 in the series , but the last chapters raised it up sharply First thoughts after finishing the last page You do not end a book like this When does the next one come out Gah

The second book in the Sorrowline series was really good I actually as a whole enjoyed it than the first book because I knew and liked the characters already and was looking forward to finding out how their journey to find the sword Durendal would unfold I love Eloise and how she protects Jack and Davey from as much danger as she can, regardless of how much pain or injury it costs her I also liked the introduction of Hilda because she is funny and intriguing but with hidden secrets of her own I [...]

I received this book as a free FirstReads giveaway. This is the second book in the Timesmith series It is just as good and enjoyable as the first book The author has a way of creating new races of creatures and their unique interaction in society and all with a level of plausibility The book ended with a good, satisfying finish yet left open the avenue for book 3 I strongly recommend this series.

A gripping and exciting sci fi fantasy adventure Plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing and enthralled, plus great characters and dialogue A very enjoyable read my only regret is that I didn t read its precursor, as that might ve helped me understand the key characters a bit better
