I knew from the word go that this was going to be a very emotional read I even prepared by having a box of tissues next to me as I started, as there seemed to be no doubt that I d be in tears by the end of it Having read The Illicit Love of a Courtesan and knowing that this story was the prequel, I knew straight away what the outcome would be, but it did nothing to lessen the emotional blow, and the streams of tears that this beautifully heartbreaking story put me through.I was so excited to see [...]

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review The Lost Love of a Soldier is the prequel of The Illicit Love of a Courtesan so I decided to read it first and I don t regret it Because just by reading the sinopsis of The Illicit Love of a Courtesan one can realise that its prequel does not have a happy ending.Ellen Pembroke is only sixteen when she falls madly in love with Captain Paul Harding The feeling is mutual, but Paul is only the sixth son of a count so he is not good [...]

5 Stars This book is the prequel to The Illicit Love of a Courtesan Essentially this is the story that starts it all What a beautiful and heartbreaking story it was I loved Captain Paul Harding. We meet Eleanor Ellen Pembroke the daughter of a Duke that has fallen in love with Captain Paul Harding Paul is below Ellen s wealth and Ellen s father the Duke of Pembroke has turned down Paul s proposal of marriage to Ellen and forbid her to see him The Duke is a horrible man throughout this entire book [...]

I absolutely hated this book let s see where should I start First this book was extremely slow and boring I did not feel any kind of connection or chemistry between Paul and Ellen It was very and I mean VERY annoying that Paul constantly used Ellen name as if we the readers would forget it or something I m not sure if it s due to Paul and Ellen being young, but the scenes that would be considered sensual between them as husband and wife where less than sensual so again, no real chemistry which i [...]

tugs at the heartstringsI did not expect to be as moved by this novel as I was.The young innocent who flees a harsh father to the arms of her true love and from thence to Gretna Green pulled me in Actually Ellen s choices were few Either she marry a much older, titled gentleman her father has dictated she must accept or take the choice about her future into her own hands Ellen, Lady Eleanor, daughter of the Duke of Pembroke, chooses to give up her position in society, and takes up the life of fo [...]

Ellen, daugther of the Duke of Pembroke, falls in love with a soldier However, this relationship is not deemed as appropriate by her father who wants her to marry someone else Ellen decides to follow her heart and marries Paul, but at the same time she needs to turn away from her family as her father made it quite clear that she is never to come back if she goes against his wish and marries Paul From this point onwards, Ellen s life will never be the same again The Lost Love of a Soldier is the [...]

Let me preface this review with letting you all know how much I love reading this author s work I was left an emotional wreck each time I finished one of her books, and this one so than the others and that is because this one is a prequel to Ellen s romance with Edward in The Illicit Love of a Courtesan. My advice, to all that have not read this author, is to read this story before you go on to TILOAC Take my word for it It will help you understand the heroine Ellen much better.Having read TILOA [...]

Jane Lark takes us right back to the beginning to what shaped the start of Ellen s troubled adult life.If you ve read The Illicit Love of a Courtesan, you ll understand what I mean when I say it s almost torture to read on as you wait for the moment that changes everything to unfold, especially when Paul goes off to battle, and it s almost a morbid curiosity that grips you.The story certainly makes clear that Ellen had few, if any, choice over her own happiness She saw a chance at true love with [...]

I would like to thank author Jane Lark for sending me copy of this in exchange for a fair and honest review. When we first meet Ellen she is waiting to here from Captain Paul Harding, they are planning to run away together as Ellen s father has refused them permission to marry.Ellen is really easy to like as is Paul, even if they both are a little niave, Ellen only 16 and Paul 21 They cling to each other and the love they share.Jane takes you in to a world long ago where you could run off to Scot [...]

A little slow with not much happening until the book almost ends Of course, that s because it s a prequel to the true beginning of the series A Duke s daughter and a sixth son who s a Captain in the Army Of course her father s not going to approve of their marriage Many, many pages of elopement follow too many pages and then it s following the beat of the drum as a pampered ton daughter embraces her role of army wife with the love of her life, who was such a good person What happens soon is trag [...]

To begin with, this book is a prequel to The Illicit Love of a Courtesan, so do not expect to find a happily ever after here What you will find, it a gut ripping cliffhanger. While reading a The Lost Love of a Soldier I cried I actually cried from beginning to end, ugh there were parts of this story that completely ripped my heart out.At the beginning of this book Paul, the 6th son of an Earl, has fallen in love with Lady Ellen Ellen returns his love most deeply But Ellen s father is against the [...]

This story held me at attention the whole time Paul Harding is a soldier in the British army, a Captain, who is also the 6th son of an Earl He happens to fall in love with Lady Eleanor Pembrooke Her father refuses his proposal.Lady Eleanor Pembroke is in love with Captain Harding, but her father has denied his suit and is trying to force her into marrying for position For if she choses to disobey, there will be consequences. These two will do things in order to have a future together I don t like [...]

I ve been wanting to read one of Jane Lark s books for some time, and eventually, The Lost Love of a Soldier fell into my hands a few weeks ago. This volume introduces Ellen, the much put upon heroine of some of Jane s other works, and Paul, the officer she meets and marries It also includes Waterloo very appropriate, given the anniversary of the battle.I was particularly impressed with Jane s tale of the battle Her writing style is flowing and passionate I enjoyed it enormously.I will definitely [...]

DNF at 52%Oh boy This should ve taught me to never got dazzled by a cover Let s just say that I read this in the wrong time and frame of mine Had I read the book in say five years ago or I might have had the patience to deal with this MIGHT being the operative word The tone was gloomy from the start and there s nobody in this story was likable for me Perhaps what the characters went through was genuine and real but to me this felt like a consecutive of TSTL met callousness I m sorry, but that s [...]

Not my normal read. This story was hard for me personally to read I don t read sad stories But since I read all the other connected books I couldn t not read it It did make John s father a real person and Ellen s life was terrible before she meets Edward Her father really needed a lesson in compassion Jane Lark s books don t sugar coat things happening.
