Did anyone edit this book Full of irrelevant padding and most sentences a chore to read because they are so loooooooong and unnecessarily complex.

I don t normally write a review unless I love a book or really really dislike a book Unfortunately this fell into the second category I will be really interested to read reviews on this book as they come in.The main character Charlie is awful, really really awful If the inference is that all men have a little bit of Charlie in them God help us.The detail on the banking industry and consultant world was unnecessary and didn t add anything to the book I will say however that I am a consultant wit [...]

A promising idea, let down by poor writing, lack of character development and a story that in the end goes nowhere.I received this novel as a present and set out to finish it, though found myself forcing to read to get it done Never before had I been compelled to review a book before this one.Firstly, the general idea behind the story is a good one There are lots of interesting plot developments, and always the tease of a greater story, though it never accounts to really anything Though at times [...]

Very good read Sophisticated tone Charlie is an intriguing character who is very 3D faults galore but still able to attract some sympathy which must have been some good work from the author considering what Charlie manages to achieve Great themes, some very modern day reading.

I really enjoyed many aspects of this book the razor sharp look at contemporary Sydney life, the middle harbour rich set, the champagne liberals, sexual politics and power, the clear, witty writing, and overall enjoyed the book Unfortunately I really didn t like the main character had a bunch of redeeming points, but his flaws especially being a sook were ultimately overwhelming I wanted something really bad to happen to him, and it never did Anyway, a decent summer read, especially enjoyable if [...]

Through charm, brains, good luck, a coolly flexible conscience and a lot of accommodation from the women in his life, Charlie Anderson has had the kind of life he wants, up till now Quite a familiar starting point for a novel, even a clich , but Richard McHugh s version has a pace, acuteness and groundedness that won me over Write what you know, they say, and it s clear that McHugh knows about life inside the world of business consultancy, big banks and the law And who but a man with teenage dau [...]

I really wanted to like this book and for the first third I did I come from a management consulting background so could really relate to the work life description But I agree with other reviewers that this book was just too wordy and needed a good edit Some of the lengthy, descriptive paragraphs pages added nothing to the story at all I pushed through in an attempt to finish it but then decided that I was resenting the effort and gave up around the 3 4 point I don t really care how it ended I do [...]

So enjoyed this story about an Australian middle class family Hadn t finished it by the time it was due back at the library but happily paid the overdue fee so I could finish the book The characters are so engaging and so human Felt myself alternately horrified by Charlie s behaviour and at the same time loving him for his feelings about his family.

This book could have been so much Boring banter about the finance industry was not needed A couple of interesting turn of events which I thought would lead to this huge plot twist but ended up being a very lame ending really What was the author thinking

Very annoying book Characters were shallow hard to relate to This is similar to The Slap however the Slap worked due to better writing sharper plot lines Also no character growth Charlie learns nothing There was also too much unnecessary detail re how banking works.
