Delightfully quirky, funny, exceedingly original A psychedelic journey of discovery through one woman s mind and quite literally her soul, as she seeks to repair the damage of a difficult and tumultuous childhood I really enjoyed this book, and I loved the offbeat cast of characters Where else will you find a closet skeleton sidekick, or a manipulative dwarf with a skill for psychic masonry The descriptions are vivid and excellent, and the story kept me hooked straight from the beginning to the [...]

This is one of the strangest things I ve ever read strange in a good way It s a little bit Alice in Wonderland, and far interesting.I ve read it all in one sitting and it s definitely one of my favourites I couldn t stop thinking about it for so long after I d read it.

I had the privilege of reading The Girl on the Red Pillow on another site, before the author published it.Prologue When a reader first meets Annalee, it s very difficult to know whether she s hallucinating, since she s looking at the world from inside a glass bowl, or if she s suffering from some kind of mental illness In the opening chapter the author doesn t give any hints about Annalee s condition, that is for the reader to discover, but her anger is quickly detected, since conflict is set up [...]

This was definitely one of the most interesting concepts I ve read in a long time I loved the way the author blurred allegory and the supernatural so smoothly That was really, really well done Struggling with some mental health issues myself, I really appreciated the way it was told and although her issues were different ones, I loved this way of talking about them.If anything, I didn t like the reality as much The dwarf and the skeleton were wonderful characters, but the real ones, the humans f [...]

Nothing I can say about this book will do my absolute love for it any justice This book is simply something you must read.A thinly veiled discussion about depression, The Girl on the Red Pillow does something I never thought possible, and definitely wouldn t have thought possible in such an entertaining and engaging way make depression humorous and interesting Well doesn t actually make depression humorous, but allows for humor to exist in a story about the topic. From the first moment you get to [...]

The story was grotesque and surreal just as the author s short story Christmas with the Elephant I liked the fact that the author seems to have her unique style of writing for the second time she s talking about the people s problems and inner struggles by using symbols and metaphors, by creating a dreamy and nightmarish atmosphere The character of the main heroine is portrayed convincingly as a lost and paranoid drug addict but still headstrong and resolute I liked the fact that the story is to [...]

A strange, rather compelling novella, with than a touch of sadness Beautifully written, it drifts along like a disjointed dream, and indeed there are some actual dream sequences mixed in with the reality that is stranger than dreaming.I m not sure whether it s about mental illness, or is presented as an off kilter fantasy The protaganist s passivity was irritating in the start, but necessary to the storyline Personally, I didn t find any humour in this that other reviewers have commented on, bu [...]

Ms Rust s novella is a fascinating look at mental illness, but with a tasteful, comedic edge The author takes the reader deeply through the mind of a young woman s struggle for sanity and the walls that keep her from escaping.I found all of the characters very compelling some hilarious, others painful but deep All with a giant twist at the climax It s a short but intelligent read, with a depth of emotions and tinge of humor that make this unquestionably a five star, must read book.

My husband won this book on the Giveaway program , I gave it a try too and I m here for a short review Loved the story and the concept behind this book And just when you thought it couldn t get any weirder the plot has an interesting twist and a weird bond set between Annalee , her father and the inner monster on the red pillow.Short story but complex at the same time proves that you don t need hundreds of pages or volumes to write a good story book.

Magical read, magically written. This short story novella is magically written, beautifully expressed and down right dark and trippy.I totally lost myself and all sense of time Such a clever and talented author. If you think you have no imagination or can t picture things in your head, then read this and it ll spark it into life It s so well written that I feel I ve watched it instead of reading any words.

What at first appears to be the dairy of a mad woman, soon develops into something sinister This story, narrated with candour and humour by a young woman is one of the most entertaining novella s I ve read for a long time and a complete change of direction from the earlier works Engaging stuff and well worth the read.

This is a wonderful novella, both entertaining and disturbing in equal measure, and I was blown away by the quality of Ms Rust s writing Grave hopping, a gnomish dwarf, closet skeleton funny guy , and fairy fungi circles, this story deserves to be read Going to say it again Wonderful.
