Although some parts are dated now, as this was originally published in 1991, it s still a good read I guessed most of the story s conclusion around half way through, but I believe Mr James didn t want to keep this from the reader by using red herrings, instead I believe it helps the reader to move with the story Kate is a believable character with a high likeability factor and the opposite can be said for Dr Swire, who is literately unlike able right from the moment he s introduced I think I als [...]

I m glad I gave Peter James a second chance Twilight was an exceptionally written horror novel which had me riveted from start to finish, and I would highly recommend it to my male and female friends alike.A chilling story about a serial killer that the reader finds himself fearing, Twilight is rightly paced, visual, and hypnotic Whilst not something that I would have chosen personally the book was a gift , I found it really difficult to tear myself away from, the characters of Kate Hemingway an [...]

Not as good as James Dead series in fact I nearly gave up with it, but the story did buck up and work out in the end I enjoyed the movement in time between the two storylines until they linked up Nice little twist at the end that I have to admit I wasn t expecting, but a bit of a slog in the middle I think that I didn t engage with the character of Kate Hemingway and found her neurotic.

Three muffled thuds ring from the partially filled grave of the newly wed girl Only the verger hears them and he dismisses the noise as his imagination But over the next few days others also hear faint sounds An exhumation order is granted Reporter Kate Hemingway sneaks into the small suburban churchyard when the coffin is opened, and the scene she witnesses is so horrific she can never forget itAnother cracking read from someone who is fast becoming one of my favourite authors This is an entert [...]

One of the best Peter James books This book is a real page turner and the vivid descriptions had me on the edge of my seat A journalist, Kate Hemingway, follows up a story about a women who is allegedly buried alive Her research and journalistic professionalism leads her to an aneathestist, Harvey Swire, who is obsessed with death the ending is brilliant and ironic.

started well but seemed to get a bit disjointed where the two main characters came together.

Thrilling read finished the book in a matter of days Only thing that spoiled it for me was the unedited, or overlooked, grammatical, spelling errors.

Creepy serial killer thriller the astral projection was a bit much and had to really stick with the book at the beginning but I did appreciate the ending.

I read this a few days ago whilst travelling on my holidays It was an ok book for sitting around on trains and planes kind of standard, slightly obvious crime mystery It s perhaps not the fastest moving plot, but reasonably well written There are seemingly two seperate story lines in this book, that only merge at the end, although it s not hard to work out where the connection is Out of the two, I preferred the storyline in the past, following Harvey Swire s life history The modern day storyline [...]

This was one of those books I long avoided because the writing and pace hardly grabbed me And for those people who had thought I was reading typical high school romance of dolly day dream dating a vampire hottie at the mention of Twilight , no just no There are books out there with the same title, so not everyone finds dating a diamond encrusted corpse their cup of tea Cartier or no.Anyway, to review this book Wow I am disappointed What really caught me in the first place was the blurb, which pr [...]

Where shall I start ah yes the word excellent I absolutely loved this book I devour Peter James books this one had me cringing at certain moments because of what was going on but its not sprinkled threw out the book The gory bits only 3 I think were well placed with a reason From start to finish this tale had me gripped a nice pace, good characters and a good story Loved the ending lesson for the day don t finish reading a good book on a bus full of passengers who stare at the noises of pleasure [...]

As always James did not disappoint The book is old ish.but still relevant Fast paced, non stop action with a delicious end which I intend NOT to give away Many of James horror novels have a tendency to touch ever so lightly upon truthjust enough, mind you, to make the reader a tad uncomfortable about their often ignorant existence This one is NOT recommended for people with needle and hospital phobias, thoughbut for those of us, who enters those white, sterile walls, well, suffice to say that fr [...]

I picked this book because I have read other books by the author anf enjoyed them This is one of his earlier works, but it was quite short and sounded interesting so I thought it would be a good, quick read.Unfortunately, although the book is short I found it very slow going I didn t finish the book I got about halfway through and got bored This was a shame because it had a promising opening and some characters who seemed interesting, but it just dragged I wanted to find out about the girl in th [...]

I really like books by Peter James, I have mostly been reading the Roy Grace series, so this was a departure as it is a much earlier written book I had no idea how the story would unfold and was unsure at the beginning where it would lead, but it was gripping and I loved it as the story progressed I had a strong impression of the characters in my mind, I m not a great believer in spirits, ghosts and out of body experiences, but the book was so well written that they became a natural part of the [...]

What to say I was excited to read this after reading Perfect People by Peter James I thoroughly enjoyed that book, so I was looking forward to read this one Now for my review, I thought the storyline was good and Harvey Swire definitely gave me chills But in all honesty, it took me reading half the book to even get into it Half the book After half the book and a little over, was when I finally got into it So that s why I m giving this book 3 stars Great storyline and good characters, but I felt [...]

I picked this up because I loved the first two Roy Grace books but refuse to pay the sudden hike in price for the subsequent books I found myself immediately sucked into the story of a journalist trying to find out whether a pregnant woman was buried alive Although you can see where the story s going, the characters are still interesting enough and the plot engaging enough to keep your attention right to the end and having read it in a couple of days, I m now off to see what else I can get by Pe [...]

Peter James is well known for his thrillers, mysteries and whodunits Deservedly so He s a good writer Twilight is well written and lets us into the minds of the heroine and the villain I managed to get to page 188 but gave up because of the subject matter and the villain Being buried alive is a dreadful thought and the villain made me mad He was such a nasty creep I just didn t want to spend of my limited time reading about him.Fans will enjoy the book There is nothing wrong with it It s just n [...]

Though this is an early work by Peter James, published before he became well known for his Roy Grace series, it is an accomplished, intricate, and riveting thriller Kate, a newspaper reporter, thinks there s to the story of a woman who may have been buried alive than the authorities want to be known, and in pursuit of the rest of the story attracts the attention of a respected anesthesiologist, who is obsessed with bringing people back from the dead to hear what they saw on the other side, and [...]

This is the first of the author s pre Roy Grace novels I have read and the style that I love in his books is still evident here, despite my apprehension about reading horror As I rule, I don t do horror or silly other things like fantasy and sci fi but I really enjoyed it and it is very readable Clearly well researched, if a little on the macabre side for me Definitely makes me want to go through the rest of the backlist.

    Michelle Douglas
I really enjoyed this bookLiked that you were told some of the story as it was happening and the history behind why the main character was what he was,in the same way, but you knew it was from the pastA very decent story with a couple of good twists in the taleThe book was a pleasure to read and I just wanted to keep reading to find out what was going on

    Angela Verdenius
wow, I had no idea this book was going to be so dark or intriguing With a crime that is horrific, and two time lines running side by side, it was surprisingly easy to follow and kept me up late reading But a warning if you re an anti vivisectionist like me, then a couple of scenes will be distressing Definitely going to check out his other books.

    Katie Boyden
This book was BRILLIANT The gruesome parts at the beginning such as the exhumation made me a bit uneasy but all in all it was brilliantly written and well paced Something that annoyed me is that I guessed the connection between Harvey and Kate about halfway through, so the big reveal at the end wasn t that exciting This book reminded me how much I love Peter James.

    Gina Morgan
A very enjoyable medical thriller though the whodunnit is set out quite plainly early on this does not detract from the unfurling of the plotline and there are several mildly shocking chapter climaxes lest complacency should begin to creep in Further good news I found none of the characters overtly and needlessly irritating.

This is the second Peter James novel read,Perfect People being the first I have to say I really enjoyed this book It was I think a little predictable, but that didn t deter me from turning page after page, and intriguing to wonder if there really is life after death.Looking forward to reading of his books

After reading Peter James s Roy Grace series this is a huge departure in genre Very Robin Cook meets Dean Koontz Quite enjoyable as a change but no where near as good as his recent Roy Grace books.

    Kain
Well now I am going to always wonder about life after death Peter James gives us another brilliant story full of twists and turn s that keep you guessing and brings you chilling moments that makes you want to leave the lights on.

Im a big fan of Peter James In this book i was really disappointed I disliked the story Ending was brutal Its as if we missed out on lots of information in the end It ended too quickly 3 pages to sum up 300 pages of story Sorry Mr James But im still a great fan of your work
